Today, electric vehicles are becoming increasingly common on the roads. However, before purchasing an electric vehicle, it is important to ensure that you have a charging station available. If you live in a shared building or a private house, the first thing you should check is whether your parking space is attached to your apartment and registered in your name in the Land Registry (Tabu).
Next, you should know that the approval of two-thirds of the residents in the building is required to install a charging station. This requirement may be waived if a proposed amendment to the Land Law (Amendment No. 35 – Installation of an Electric Vehicle Charging Station in a Shared Building and Real Estate Laws) is passed. If the proposed amendment is approved, it will be possible to install a charging station with 45 days’ prior notice to the other residents, without the need for additional approval.
Additionally, you should ensure that the insurance for the shared property in the building also covers the charging station.
